Bonsai Business Advice

If you look at this photo, what do you see?

Okay, it's a botanic specimen of some sort.
Don't scroll yet... really, what do you think you're looking at?

If I were writing an article about how to create a beautiful bonsai tree, maybe I'd include an image like the one above. I'd give you all the tips and tricks and blah-blah-blah, but what I probably wouldn't want to tell you is that the tree really looks like this.

This is what a lot of advice articles, especially on LinkedIn, are like. They tell you all about the finished product, but when you try the advice, what you see instead is something like the image below.

A bonsai tree but not looking so nice.
Yikes! All up in curlers and no make-up!

This is Albert. Albert is the premna bonsai that sits on my desk in my home office. I bought Albert earlier this year at a nice bonsai shop I frequent in Kuala Lumpur. Here is what he looked like when I brought him home.

A young bonsai tree.
Kawaii desu neh

This is the look a few months later that earned him his name, after Albert Einstein:

A bonsai tree in dire need of a trim.
You need a trim, young man!

All right, back to the point of this article.
